Lil' Yellow Dresser Makeover

I am lucky enough to have an amazing grandmother who gave me some of her cherished furniture. Two sturdy dressers and an Ethan Allan hutch to be exact. I love them but they were in desperate need of some updating. I've had it on my "to do" list for a long time. Now that I am officially taking a break, I decided it was time to do a few projects just for me! Selfish aren't I?

Introducing dresser number one before the makeover.....

She's a strong sturdy piece that will last through generations of children driving cars on her and husbands leaving glasses of water on her lovely finish.
I sanded the top of this beast for well over an hour to get that "lovely" finish off of her then stained it with a dark chestnut
Painted her up with some homemade chalk paint (recipe found here) in sunshine yellow. More sanding and distressing. Then gave her some new hardware (which I found here) and voila!
Introducing the new and updated version....
Isn't she purty?! She brightens up the room.

Of course she needed some accessories

I've been on the search for an old mirror for quite some that needed some TLC and was cheap enough for my budget. I finally found one for $16 in a little second hand shop on a recent trip to Eastern WA. Yahoo!

Feels so good to cross these two projects off my list. It's not often that I actually do something just for ME! Now onto dresser number two....
What projects have you done lately that were just for YOU?
